Gakunin
Roughly translated as "studious person" - not of the ruling class, but a descriptor-name her parents assigned themselves and their family for the sake of the lands they traveled to. They were archivists of a sort, traveling for the sake of their ever-expanding library. When the Calamity struck, they happened to be in Eorzea, and took shelter in Ul'dah. They were among the first to leave it when the dust settled, with tensions against their kind due to sharply rise.
Sayano
Roughly translated as "ever swifter" - the younger of the Gakunins' two children; Sayano was unlike her older sibling in every way. Where he was happy to take up the collection of facts and folklore for their parents to hand off one day, Sayano became fascinated with the tales of heroes within. Tired of traveling, and often running and hiding from fighting, she decided she was going to become one of those heroes.
